Exploring Pastels (July 9, 23, and 30) 6:30-8:30 PM
In this three part series students will learn a variety of pastel techniques that will help them to better understand and explore the medium. The culminating project for the course will involve a larger pastel project which will take place over the course of one class session. Below is a breakdown of each class day.
Class 1: Exploring Drawing and Basic Pastel Techniques
In this first lesson, students will be introduced to different drawing techniques that will help them to better understand how to draw with confidence. Students will leave this lesson with an increased awareness of drawing and a little homework for the next lesson. A basic overview of both oil and chalk pastel technique will be taught in order to aid students in the next two lessons as well as give them a chance to explore the mediums more at home.
Class 2: Experimentation
Through the drawing work that students completed in the first lesson, the teacher will give a more thorough overview of different pastel techniques. This will launch a greater experimentation of both chalk and oil pastels and the difference between the two mediums. Two small pieces will be created in this class period which will help students to better understand which medium they would like to work with in the final class period.
Class 3: Integrating Technique
In this final class, students will work on their larger project. Using the technical information from the previous two class periods and with the aid of the teacher, they will work to more fully explore the pastel medium of their choosing through their lager project.
